In the autumn of 2017 we will be running Start! at All Saints in North Baddesley a six session introductory course which introduces Christianity through interactive small-group sessions. Importantly Start! makes no assumptions about t participants’ background or experience or knowledge of Christianity or the church. It really does start from scratch.
Leading your Church into Growth (LyCiG) have been helping churches to grow sustainably for over 25 years and are a respected and widely supported group in this area. They use definitions of growth which we support including:
- growth: number of people involved
- spiritual growth: more people becoming more like Jesus
- servanthood growth: more people having more of an impact on communities and society.
Implementing results from LyCiG Local
Earlier this year we used the LyCiG local course to help all church members to come to a shared vision to see our churches grow. We don’t want to be bigger churches because that in itself is good, but we do want to see God’s lost children being found and His world transformed.Read more about the course in this news article LyCiG Local for Lent: comes well recommended on our site.
The LyCiG process concerns us all because everyone who follows Jesus, however tentatively, are gift bearers and needed in some way in the work of growth.
There is nothing about our villages that precludes growth. There are no satisfactory arguments of surrounding culture, finance, or leadership that explain why we aren't making more impact. Much of what we do is good. Much of it may be necessary.
The processes which have come out of the LyCiG Local course will help us consider how we worship, when we worship, what is preached, how we provide pastoral care in our villages, and evaluate events.
